Anyway here’s a poem I wrote about my cat

After “Do not stand at my grave and weep”, author disputed:

Do not stand at your bowl and meow.
I gave you food. It’s in there now.
I feed you at the dawning light,
I feed you at the fall of night.
I feed you kibbles mixed with meat
And wet food for a special treat.
I feed you even though you scoff
At all the food within your trough.
I feed you and still yet you yell
Like as a beast from deepest hell.
Do not stand at your bowl and cry.
I gave you food. You will not die.

image

I wrote one for my roommate’s cat as well;

Do not stand at my feet and cry
It’s VEGETABLES, you silly guy!
Your begging will not change the food
Into a thing you think is good
I’ll give you things not cheese or meat
You sniff at them and then retreat
And yet, as soon as chopping starts
You run back in and beg for parts
You squint your eyes at plant-based food
And yet you won’t stop BEGGING, dude!
Do not stand by the stove and bleat
You don’t like this. You will not eat.

i get so freaked out by like. pictures of really big rope

I’d like to say that’s normal but I’m a frayed knot

i’m so fucking annoyed at this, just for that you don’t get photos of the rope

i changed my mind, this is just too horrifying not to share

image

it’s called a Hawser and is the thick cable or rope used for towing/mooring a ship

image

in conclusion, i have nightmares beyond description

image

NO it would NOT be cool

well i fucken disagree

@scumrunner do you have any cursed facts about hawsers to share ?

As a fiber nerd, i am personally very enthusiastic about them….

Ohhohohoho DO I EVER. Meet the “snapback zone,” not an area with cool hats, but instead the unintuitive range at which a hawser can kill you if it breaks under tension.

image

What if we kissed in the snap-back zone? 😳 😳 😳

I don’t think you guys understand how much force this is, a tow rope used to move a 20 foot boat snaps under tension with enough force to dent metal, shatter glass and seriously injure anyone in its way. A Hawser on the other hand… Well I’ve seen a concrete pier with a chuck the size of a sedan ripped out of it by a line failure, and anecdotally, I’ve heard of a 2 ton heavy cargo forklift being skidded sideways, then knocked over. These lines snap with enough force to noticably dent the hull armor of navy ships.

This is a line designed to hold in place a moving object that can be easily in excess of 10000 tons. AND THEY CAN BREAK FROM THAT TENSION ALONE.

THESE THINGS ARE TERRIFYING RUBBER BANDS FROM HELL.

oop dont wanna get your ass snapped with one of those

Apparently a good way to prevent these types of accidents is with a snap-back arrestor.

holy shit this was both fascinating and terrifying. looking forward to the nightmares :)

this post has taken on new and disturbing relevance!!!

That guy has the thickest Polish accent I’ve heard xD

this is for those who despair over seeing ships or tropes that make them uncomfortable while they do their little scrolly-scroll on ao3, acting like they aren’t responsible for their own internet experience

Listen. LISTEN, the longer I spend in the academic world, I am more convinced that describing Judaism and Jews as a religion/ethnic grope/ethnoreligion is unhelpful outside of Academic circles.

The best way to explain Judaism is using the tribe model. A lot of times Judaism is a community first and a religion second, i.e., your level of religiousness is rarely a thing that alienate you from the community.

Think of other tribes, like the Sámi, Aboriginal Australians, Māori, Yurok, Inuit ect. Each have their own unique religion, but we do not think of them as a religious group, because the tribal identity is more important, and the religion is considered part of the culture, not the opposite.

IMORTANT SIDENOTE: I am aware that many of those tribes, and other tribes have a big chunk of Christians in them, usually more Christians than those who follow the indigenous religion of the tribe. BUT for the sake of discussion, I am equating Judaism to the section that does follow the indigenous religion of the tribe.

So, despite the fact that the religious structures of Judaism is very integral to Judaism, it is partly because of the community based focus of Judaism. The most basic example is the Minyan, the fact that prayer is preferred to be done in a group. Or the fact that the Sader is meant to be a celebrated in a group. and so on.

SO, ethnoreligion is a great academic term, but for outside that world? A tribe is a much better term to explain Judaism.

👆👆👆👆

THIS. the push to label jews as a religious group partly came from jewish immigrants to america trying to assimilate for their own safety, but in the modern day i notice it’s just a lot of gentiles trying to erase jewish history and identity bc Jews Aren’t Special Ur All Just Rich White Ppl Stop Acting Like Ur Oppressed. if jews want to reclaim our tribal status after decades and centuries of y’all trying to force us to assimilate or die, then fucking let us. talking to u, leftists and progressives.

We need like “unclench your jaw” posts but for eye strain. Like

Go look at something 20ft away for 20 seconds.

take off your glasses if you wear them for 20 seconds

Recommended by my optometrist

Look at something 20 feet away, then 10, then 5, then one, then if you can your nose.

Repeat twice, then again without glasses.

Face forward look out of the corner of your eye. As far as you can look. Slowly move to the other corner. Repeat twice.

Look down as far as you can. Slowly look up. Repeat twice.

Roll eyes twice.

Close eyes for five minutes.

I do this every day usually at my halfway point. My migraines went away. My vision go better. Honestly stretching my eyes as she put it feels great too.
